Why Hire Me for Nutrition Counseling?
If you are like most people, you are confused by all the conflicting information that you read in the newspaper or online, or hear on a popular doctor television program. Should you drink coffee? Take fish oil? Take a multi-vitamin?
One day these things are beneficial, the next they turn out to be harmful.
How are you to know what to eat? Trust me, I’ve been there too!
This is especially true if you’re fighting chronic illness, trying to lose weight, working to reverse symptoms of aging, treating diabetes, or seeking to lower your cholesterol.
Through my Wellness Coaching and Nutrition Counseling services, knowing what to eat to help you reach your health goals makes the process much easier and more effective.
What Is a Holistic Nutrition Coach?
What I do is very simple. I teach you how to eat so you can fix your deficiencies and heal your body.
Deficiencies are your body telling you that it needs better nourishment. They may manifest themselves as fatigue, brain fog, insulin resistance, high cholesterol, allergies, and other autoimmune problems or achy knees. And the answer is always whole food! Most people, however, just don’t know how or where to begin.
My approach has a proven track record and is based on the work of T. Colin Campbell, author of The China Study; Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. and Dr. Popper herself in her own practice.
Dr. Pam Popper, founder of the Wellness Forum Institute for Health Studies, and where my continuing education takes place, is my mentor.
Most people respond very quickly to this approach, but it’s not a “quick fix.”
The holistic nutrition plan I teach comes from the first school in the U.S. to offer a program based on “diet-centered health care.” It was founded on the philosophy of plant-based nutrition, and the use of only the most rigorous and independent scientific standards for evaluating nutrition and health information.
And you don’t have to become a vegan to accomplish it! My tasty and filling whole food diet plans will leave you feeling energized, establish good habits and if you need to, lose that extra weight.
Why Work With Me, vs. a Nutritionist or Dietician?
I am a nutrition educator and holistic health coach using food as the first treatment for chronic diseases and prevention.
I do not diagnose or treat diseases – that is between you and your doctor. I am not a “degreed” nutritionist, nor am I a licensed dietician.
A nutritionist will attempt to determine where your diet lacks in certain nutrients. They may or may not have a degree in nutrition science. In fact, just about anyone can call themselves a nutritionist! Most nutritionists do have a “food as medicine” approach. But most are not trained in a whole-food, plant-based diet as I am. In fact, they often ‘prescribe” supplements if they suspect dietary deficiencies. This can get very costly. And more studies coming out today show that most supplements are not only ineffective, but can cause harm. It’s not NICE to fool Mother Nature!
A dietician generally works in a hospital or with a doctor to be sure you are getting recommended daily allowances.
Generally (and I am not including all dieticians here!) a dietician would recommend an eating plan based on the four basic food groups. Some of those, such as dairy foods, as well as daily consumption of animal protein, have no place in my eating plan. Furthermore, dieticians are generally not concerned with your eating processed foods as long as the label has the recommended daily requirements. But when you work with me, I make sure you are eating whole foods, for plant based nutrition all the time.
Research shows that the healthiest populations in the world eat this way. And you are getting such a wide variety of nutrients from food that it is virtually impossible not to get your daily needs met.
Before I even meet with you, I will have you complete a personal health assessment and a 5-day food diary. This gives me a lot of insight into what issues need to be addressed and the best course of action to take.
The bottom line is, food can harm you and is most likely the culprit for the alignments you are experiencing today. The good news is that food – and the totality of the diet – is medicine.
I believe that we “are fearfully and wonderfully made” – we are designed as healing machines! Once you learn to eat for health, you may find that you require fewer doctor visits and medications. That is my goal for you. And it’s what practical health care is all about! And my services are designed to get you there.
